Women's Basketball Tops PSAC East Leading Bloomsburg

WEST CHESTER, Pa.- For the first time in over a month, the West Chester University women's basketball team (7-10, 3-6 PSAC) took to the floor at home against PSAC East leading Bloomsburg (9-6, 5-3 PSAC). West Chester played well and earned a crucial 73-57 home victory over rival Bloomsburg.

How it Happened:
  • In the first quarter, Bloomsburg opened the game on a 7-0 run before West Chester answered back with a 9-4 run of its own, which allowed the Golden Rams to trail by just two (11-9) at the first quarter media timeout. This run continued following the timeout as the two sides ended the first quarter tied at 14-14.
  • West Chester opened the second quarter on another run as the Golden Rams outscored their guests 11-2, which gave them a solid 25-16 lead with just under five minutes to play in the half. Bloomsburg answered back with another run of its own to trim the deficit to just four, which prompted a West Chester timeout with two minutes to play in the half. The Golden Rams would go on another run to stretch their lead to 34-29 heading to the halftime break.
  • The third quarter was similar to the first two as the two sides traded baskets and short runs as West Chester managed to preserve and extend its lead to 52-41 heading to the fourth and final quarter of play.
  • In the fourth quarter, West Chester finished the game outscoring its guests 21-16 to capture the 73-57 victory over the top-ranked team in the PSAC East on Saturday afternoon.
Golden Ram Rundown:
  • Madison Torresin (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) registered a double-double as she was the games leading scorer with 21 points while also registering 10 rebounds to go along with four assists and three steals.
  • Destiny Jefferson (Scranton, Pa./West Scranton) also found her way into double-figures with 16 points while Zhane Snow (Wilmington, Del./Concord) ended with 12 and Katherine Fisher (Rutledge, Pa./Strath Haven) had 13 points of her own.
  • Gabrielle Troisi (Norristown, Pa./Pope John Paul II) played the role of the facilitator for the Golden Rams as she recorded a game-high seven assists to help sustain the Golden Ram offense.
  • As a team, West Chester shot 31-of-68 (45.6 %) from the field while also going 4-for-18 (22.2 %) from deep. The Golden Rams also shot just over 50 % from the line as they went 7-for-13 (53.8 %) from the line in the victory.
  • The Golden Rams also ended the game with a sizable plus-15 advantage in rebounding as West Chester came away with 48 rebounds while its opponents registered just 33. West Chester also ended the game with a 44-28 edge in points in the paint and an 18-8 advantage in second chance points. The Golden Rams also ended the game with an 11-0 lead in fastbreak points and a 9-5 edge in points off the bench.
A Look at the Huskies
  • Taylor Montana led a trio of Huskies with 14 points as Bella Ricci and Emma Saxton also ended with 14 points while Marissa Molnar registered 10 points of her own in the loss.
  • As a team, Bloomsburg shot 22-of-59 (37.3 %) from the field while going just 3-for-19 (15.8 %) from beyond the arc. The Huskies also shot 10-of-15 (66.7 %) from the stripe in the defeat. Bloomsburg also ended the game with a 14-7 advantage in points off turnovers by the end of regulation.

West Chester will have a week to prepare for its next matchup against another PSAC East foe in Lock Haven with that contest getting underway at 2 p.m. inside Hollinger Field House.
