Four Gridiron Players Honored In Monthly ECAC Awards

DANBURY, Conn. - West Chester University swept the four ECAC Division II Athletes of the Month awards that were announced Wednesday afternoon.

Senior QB Paul Dooley (Philadelphia, Pa./Springside-Chestnut Hill) was named the Offensive Athlete of the Month while R-Fr., LB Jackson Taylor (Glenside, Pa./Abington) was named the Defensive Athlete of the Month Junior punter George Lambritsios (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) was named the Special Teams Athlete of the Month while freshman DB Izaiah McPherson (McCungie, Pa./Emmaus) was the Rookie of the Month.

The foursome is a big reason for West Chester's 4-0 start to the 2019 campaign. They have all contributed tremendously in the first month of the season.

Dooley is 63-for-118 on the year with 836 yards passing. He has thrown five touchdowns on the year while also rushing for 205 yards and four more touchdowns. He is averaging 209 yards passing per game while also averaging 5.3 rushing yards per carry and just over 50 yards per game.

Taylor currently leads the squad in tackles from his middle linebacker position. He has 21 stops to his credit (9 solo and 12 assisted). He has 2.5 tackles for a loss, has intercepted a pass and been credited with one pass breakup.

Fellow defensive starter, McPherson is a true freshman on the perimeter at cornerback. He has six tackles on the year, but leads the team with two interceptions and is second with a pair of pass breakups as well. His four passes defensed is tied for the team lead.

Lambritsios is off to a stellar star, averaging 46.5 yards per punt on 16 boots. He punted a career-long 73-yarder that was downed inside the 1-yard line in the season opener. He then kicked another 63 yards against Seton Hill that was also downed at the inch-line. West Chester's defense turned that into a safety on the Griffins' first offensive play. Lambritsios, who had not punted in a football game until this season, has put seven punts inside the opposition's 20-yard line and has four punts over 60 yards on the year.

West Chester travels to Shippensburg on Saturday for a 1 p.m. showdown with the Red Raiders.
