Golden Rams Close Out October With 3-0 Victory

Box Score SPARKILL, N.Y. - Sophomore Shane Hartey (Runnemede, N.J. / Triton Hall) scored two goals as West Chester defeated non-conference opponent St. Thomas Aquinas College 3-0 on the road Wednesday.
The Golden Rams outshot the Spartans 16-5 on the way to their 11th win of the season (11-3-1 overall). The Spartans dropped to a 3-10-1 seasonal record following the loss.
How it happened:
  • The Golden Rams first got on the board in the 25th minute as Hartey scored on a pass from Colin Muller (Bethlehem, Pa. / Liberty). | WCU 1-0
  • In the 75th minute, Hartey tacked on his second goal of the day, unassisted. | WCU 2-0
  • Five minutes later, the Golden Rams were awarded a penalty kick after a yellow card was issued to the Spartans' goalkeeper in the penalty box. Senior Nick Jachwak (Souderton, Pa. / Souderton Area) answered the call for the Golden Rams, defeating the keeper for his first goal of the season. | WCU 3-0
Inside the numbers:
  • Junior goalkeeper Drew Fink (Boiling Springs, Pa. / Boiling Springs) earned a shutout during his first collegiate start in net for the Golden Rams. Fink made two saves on the day.
  • Hartey now possesses six goals on the season, and now leads the team alongside Doug Goitia (Mount Pocono, Pa. / Pocono Mountain East) in the category.
  • Muller's assist on Hartey's first goal was his fifth on the season, and he now is tied for the team lead in assists with Stephen Thompson (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley).
  • The Golden Rams finish the month of October with a 6-2 record on the month. West Chester outscored their opponents 17-6 in that timeframe, while shutting out their opponents five times.

The Golden Rams now enter the final stretch as they face Shippensburg and Bloomsburg for their final two regular season matches. West Chester will first travel to Shippensburg on Saturday for a 2 p.m. game. The Golden Rams will then welcome the Huskies next Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. for their final regular season match.
