Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

West Chester Pulls Away Late, Beats Wilmington 72-59

WILMINGTON, Del. - West Chester University women's basketball played its first road game of the season and defeated Wilmington University 72-59 after winning the fourth quarter 24-13.

The Golden Rams improved to 2-1 this season as four of their players scored in double figures against the Wildcats (0-3). Senior Alexis Anderson (Allentown, Pa. / Louis E. Dieruff) had 17 points, freshman Leah Johnson (Columbus, N.J. / Notre Dame) scored 14, senior Gabrielle Troisi (Norristown, Pa. / Pope John Paul II) dropped 13 and freshman Sasha Marvel (Medford Lakes, N.J. / Caravel Academy) contributed with 11.  Anderson has led the Golden Rams in scoring in both games she's played in this season.

The teams traded leads several times throughout the first half. West Chester led by five when Anderson drilled a three-pointer to put the team up 23-18 with 7:10 left in the second quarter. However, Wilimington went on an 18-7 run to take a six-point lead, which would be its biggest of the game with 1:24 remaining in the first half.

The Golden Rams didn't jump in front again until Marvel drained a three at the 4:12 mark in the third quarter to give them a 44-42 advantage. West Chester clung to its lead and eventually expanded it to 10 to cruise through the final five minutes of the fourth quarter.

Troisi, as she usually does, stuffed the stat sheet with nine rebounds, five assists and a block in a team-high 37 minutes on the floor. Senior Katherine Fisher (Rutledge, Pa. / Strath Haven) also had a well-rounded night with six points, nine rebounds and three assists.

All five of West Chester's starters played at least 32 minutes. The West Chester bench only combined for 26 minutes played.

The Golden Rams play at Hollinger Field House in their next two games on Sunday at 1 p.m. against Jefferson University and Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. against Lincoln University.
