CLARION, Pa. - West Chester University men's basketball is 6-0 after comfortably defeating Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference opponent Clarion University 73-54 on the road Sunday.
Senior
Malik Jackson (Lansdowne, Pa. / Penn Wood) led West Chester with 20 points against Clarion. He's second on the team at 17.8 points per game this season.
The Golden Rams (6-0 overall, 2-0 PSAC) slammed on the gas on Sunday as two good free throws from
junior Antoine Lewis (New Rochelle, N.Y. / New Rochelle [Allegany College]) gave them a 17-4 lead over the Golden Eagles (0-5, 0-2) just 6:54 into the start of the game.
The score was never truly close, and
sophomore Josh Samec (Tresckow, Pa. / Hazleton Area) knocked down two foul shots to put West Chester up 37-15 just over three minutes before halftime. Samec posted his second double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds against Clarion.
A three-pointer from Lewis gave West Chester its largest lead of the game when the team went up 54-30 halfway through the second half. Lewis finished second on the Golden Rams with 15 points against the Golden Eagles. He's shooting 50 percent from three-point range on 28 attempts this season.
West Chester is back in Hollinger Field House for another non-conference matchup against Wilmington (Del.) on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
