WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Sophomore
Josh Samec (Trecksow, Pa. / Hazelton Area) recorded his third double-double in the last five games, leading undefeated West Chester University men's basketball to a 107-74 win over Wilmington (Del.) University on Wednesday night at Hollinger Field House.
Â
The 6-foot-7 versatile forward had 19 points, 13 rebounds, six assists and no turnovers in 27 minutes for the Golden Rams (7-0) against the Wildcats (0-6). Samec was named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Defensive Athlete of the Week on Monday.
Â
West Chester never gave Wilmington a chance as it jumped out to 32-9 lead when Samec drained a three 9:38 into the start of the game. The Wildcats went on a small run to make the score 52-38 going into halftime, but that's the closest the score would be throughout the rest of the game.
Â
Senior guard
Malik Jackson (Lansdowne, Pa. / Penn Wood) made a three-pointer that sent West Chester on a 21-8 run to open the second half.
Â
Freshman
Robbie Heath (Whittlesea, Australia / Abington), named PSAC Athlete of the Week on Monday, led the Golden Rams with 24 points, raising his season average to 21.6. Jackson and junior
Antoine Lewis (New Rochelle, N.Y. / New Rochelle) rounded out the list of four West Chester players in double figures with 11 each.
Â
Senior center
Tim Toro (Scranton, Pa. / Abington Heights) found himself in foul trouble so he only played 19 minutes as a starter on Wednesday, but he still managed to score nine points and grab nine rebounds. Freshman
Matt Dade (Collegeville, Pa. / Episcopal Academy) saw his first real action as a college player by picking up 12 of the minutes that Toro missed out on. Dade had eight points and six rebounds, going 6-of-7 from the free throw line.
Â
West Chester eclipsed 100 points in a game for the third time in the last two seasons. The team scored 113 on November 9 in a win over Lincoln, its most in a game since 1989.
