PHILADELPHIA - West Chester University football sophomore offensive lineman Brendan Ruskowski (Philadelphia / Archbishop Ryan) and sophomore defensive end Cole Zapf (Downingtown, Pa. / Downingtown West) were placed on the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Football Team by the Philadelphia Area Sports Information Directors Association.

The Academic All-Area Football Team is comprised of 24 student-athletes that excelled in the classroom and on the field in 2019 as voted on by the sports information offices of 30 institutions in the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

Ruskowski, an accounting major, started in all 12 games for a Golden Rams team that finished with a 9-3 record. He was also a second-team All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference honoree.

Zapf, a criminal justice major, was second on West Chester with 63 total tackles and 36 solo tackles. He had 7.5 tackles for loss as well as one interception, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

The two sophomores will look to get back on the field for West Chester in 2020 in hopes of leading the team to its fourth straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
