Women's Basketball Tops Lock Haven

LOCK HAVEN, Pa.- The West Chester University women's basketball team (14-12, 10-8 PSAC) was back in action on Thursday evening on the road against PSAC East  foe  Lock Haven (13-12, 8-10). West Chester never trailed in this contest as the Golden Rams rolled to the 62-51 victory over the Bald Eagles.

How it Happened:
  • In the first quarter, West Chester opened the game with an impressive 11-3 scoring run over the course of the first five minutes of play to secure an early eight-point advantage. This early lead proved vital as the two sides traded baskets for the remainder of the opening stanza to allow West Chester to carry an 18-10 lead to the second quarter.
  • In the second quarter, it was Lock Haven's turn to open the quarter with an impressive run as the Bald Eagles outscored the Golden Rams 10-2 over the course of the first three minutes to even the score at 20-20 with seven minutes to play in the half. West Chester was able to answer back with a run of its own as the Golden Rams outscored their hosts 13-4 over the course of the next seven minutes to regain a 33-24 lead heading to the halftime break.
  • The third quarter was very similar to the second as the two sides traded runs as the Golden Rams closed out the quarter on a run after allowing the Bald Eagles to open the half on a run of their own. Despite these runs, West Chester still managed to take a 45-38 lead to the fourth and final quarter of play.
  • The two sides traded baskets throughout the fourth quarter of play as West Chester ended the quarter outscoring its hosts by a slim 17-12 margin to claim the 62-51 road victory.
Golden Ram Rundown:
  • Destiny Jefferson (Scranton, Pa./West Scranton) was the Golden Rams leading scorer this evening as she finished with 19 points on 8-of-15 shooting while teammates Rylee Power (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) and Madison Torresin (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) ended with 14 points and 12 points, respectively.
  • Gabrielle Troisi (Norristown, Pa./Pope John Paul II) posted a game-high for rebounds as she finished with 12 while teammate Katherine Fisher (Rutledge, Pa./Strath Haven) ended with 10 rebounds of her own.
  • As a team, West Chester shot 43.4 % (23-of-53) from the field while also shooting 28.6 % (4-for-14) from deep and 80.0 % (12-of-15) from the charity stripe in the victory.
  • West Chester never trailed in this contest as the Golden Rams led for slightly over 38 minutes of the game with their largest lead coming late in the fourth quarter when the squad found itself up 16 with just over two minutes to play in the game.
A Look at Lock Haven:
  • Bink Redman was one of two Bald Eagles to finish in double-figures as she led the way with 14 points while Ahnera Parker poured in 11 points of her own in the loss.
  • As a team, Lock Haven shot just 30.8 % (20-of-65) from the field and just 11.1 % (3-of-27) from three-point range while also shooting 53.3 % (8-for-15) from the charity stripe on the evening.
Up Next:
West Chester will return home on Saturday afternoon for a pivotal matchup opposite East Stroudsburg with that game set to begin at 1 p.m. inside Hollinger Fieldhouse. Fans are encouraged to arrive early as Saturday afternoon will also be senior day for the Golden Rams with that ceremony occurring prior to the opening tip.
