Women's Gymnastics Tops Southern Connecticut State on Friday Evening

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.- The West Chester University women's gymnastics team (10-2) was back in action on Friday night against Southern Connecticut State in the teams annual Pink Invitational Meet inside the Philadelphia Convention Center. The Golden Rams swept all four events this evening to roll to the 192.900-190.875 victory.

West Chester achieved its highest team score of the evening in the floor exercise as the Golden Rams registered a score of 48.425 while registering a 48.400 on the beam, a 48.350 on the bars, and a 47.725 on the vault.

In the vault, West Chester swept the top-three spots as Brashlyn Johnson (Aynor, S.C.) registered the victory with a score of 9.750 while Jessica Meakim (Downingtown, Pa.) was second with a score of 9.575 and Lindsey Mathis (Waldorf, Md.) was third with a score of 9.550 to help West Chester edge Southern Connecticut State in this event.

Yoli Nodarse (Pompton Plains, N.J.) and Sarah Boyd (St. Petersburg, Fl.) also took first and second on the beam as Nodarse ended with a score of 9.875 while Boyd registered a score of 9.775. Teammate Melanie Wojewoda (Amelia, Ohio) tied for third in this event with a score of 9.725 before tying for first on the bars with a score of 9.800.

Myranda Marshall (Lancaster, Pa.) and Nodarse also competed well on the uneven bars for West Chester as Marshall registered a score of 9.725 while Nodarse finished at 9.700 to help lead West Chester to a victory in this event as well.

Meakim also performed exceptionally well in the floor routine to record a victory in this event as well with a score of 9.825 while teammate Rose Fanara (Fredericksburg, Va.) was third with a score of 9.750 and Nodarse finished in a tie for fourth with a score of 9.700 as well.

This victory extends West Chester winning streak to six as the Golden Rams have not suffered a defeat since February 3rd when the team was edged by Towson inside SECU Arena on the campus of Towson University.

West Chester will be back in action on March 2nd when the team returns to Ursinus for a meet beginning at 1 p.m.
