BABSON PARK, Fla. – The West Chester University women's tennis team kicked for their spring break trip by defeating Webber International 5-2 on Saturday afternoon in Babson Park, Florida.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The duo of senior Rylee Power (NEWTOWN SQUARE, PA/MARPLE NEWTOWN) and freshman Alyssa Skulsky (CHURCHVILLE, PA/COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH) opened the afternoon with an 8-4 victory at first doubles, before the tandem of sophomore Leandra Roelker (ALLENTOWN, PA./SALISBURY) and freshman Danisa Erriad (JAKARTA, INDONESIA/ES INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL) won a 9-8 (7-0) battle at No. 2 doubles to give WCU the one point for taking two of three doubles matches heading into singles action.
- The Golden Rams were dominant in singles play, as West Chester left Babson Park having won four of the six singles contests. Power claimed No. 1 position 6-4, 6-3 to put WCU in front 3-1 overall, before Roelker, sophomore Elaina Rochford (WEST CHESTER, PA./HENDERSON) and sophomore Shannon Nixon (WYNCOTE, PA./CHELTENHAM) closed out the afternoon by winning the final three singles matches of the day to give the Golden Rams the 6-3 win to start the spring season.
