WEST LIBERTY, W.V.- The West Chester University women's tennis team traveled to West Virginia on Saturday afternoon to take on regional foe West Liberty. The match was close throughout but West Chester prevailed by a final of 5-2.
In doubles play, the duo of Rylee Power (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) and Alyssa Skulsky (Churchville, Pa./Council Rock South) dropped their match to open before Danisa Erriad (Jakarta, Indonesia) and Leandra Roekler (Allentown, Pa./Salisbury) rebounded to win second doubles by a final of 6-4 with Shannon Nixon (Wyncote, Pa./Cheltenham) and Julia Mowrey (Bethlehem, Pa./Notre Dame) claiming third doubles by a final of 6-1.
In singles play, Power rebounded to capture first singles 6-4, 6-3 while Erriad won second singles 6-1, 6-0 to improve the Golden Rams to 2-0 in singles play. Skulsky dropped third singles to bring the singles portion of the match back to 2-1 before Roekler won fourth singles 6-3, 6-3 to extend the advantage. In fifth singles, Rochford battled hard but eventually fell in a tie break 4-6, 6-4, 0-1 while teammate Nixon took sixth singles 6-0, 6-1 to close out the victory for the purple and gold.
West Chester will be back in action tomorrow on the road at Fairmont State in what will be the final match of the Golden Rams weekend trip to West Virginia. Â
