PSAC Baseball Title Game Cancelled Due to Weather; Bloomsburg Named Champion

PSAC Release

JOHNSTOWN, Pa.
– Due to continuing rain and wind in the Johnstown area, officials at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) have decided to forgo today's PSAC Baseball Championship game and award Bloomsburg with the tournament title.

Following the PSAC policies, the Huskies won the championship based on the leagues criteria for a shortened tournament. Bloomsburg went 3-0 through the championship with victories over No. 20 Mercyhurst, West Chester and No. 7 Millersville along the way. The title is the fourth overall for the Huskies and first since 1965. BU's Ben Newbert was named tournament Most Valuable Player after leading the championship with 10 RBI and logging a 1.000 slugging percentage in three games.

The Golden Rams led Seton Hill 10-7 in the loser's bracket final last night, but had the game halted due to weather in the top of the fifth. Since that game did not reach the five-inning minimum to officially count as a full game played, it was declared a "no contest" which gave Bloomsburg the title as the only undefeated team remaining in the tournament.

Overall, West Chester went 2-1 in the 2019 PSAC Championship, defeating Cal U (6-5) and top-seeded Gannon (11-1) before falling to Bloomsburg 14-3 on Saturday morning.

The NCAA Division II selection show is scheduled for 10:00 p.m. on Sunday night.
