WEST CHESTER, Pa.  – Kenny Edelin (Middletown, Del./Middletown) caught a career-high six passes for 104 yards and a touchdown while the defense limited visiting Seton Hill to just 112 yards of total offense in pitching a shutout for West Chester on a hot Saturday afternoon at John A. Farrell Stadium.
Â
West Chester (3-0) remained undefeated on the season over a young Seton Hill (0-2) squad. It marked the first shutout for the Golden Rams in 28 games, dating back to a 52-0 win over Millersville in 2016 at Farrell Stadium.
Â
It looked like a day for the defense right off the bat when So., LB Rashon Wiggins (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) teamed up with R-Fr., DT Connor Munnelly (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) for a safety with 1:31 left in the first quarter. That score was set up by Jr., P George Lambritsios (Broomall, Pa./Newtown Square) pinning the Griffins inside the 1-yard line with a 52-yard punt that was downed on the inch-line by Izaiah McPherson (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus).
Â
Fr., WR Seth Degree (Philadelphia, Pa./West Catholic) caught his first career TD pass in the corner of the end zone with 12:21 left in the second quarter to make it a 9-0 ballgame. Jr., PK Andrew Chegia (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) kicked a 22-yard field goal, and Edelin followed with a 35-yard TD reception from Paul Dooley (Philadelphia, Pa./Springside-Chestnut Hill) before the half ended as the Golden Rams took a 19-0 lead into the locker room.
Â
Ja'Den McKenzie (Morton, Pa./Springfield-DELCO) bowled in from the 1-yard line midway through the third quarter, and Chegia finished off the scoring with a 29-yard field goal in the fourth.
Â
But, the story of the day belonged to the Golden Rams' defense which allowed Seton Hill just 2.0 yards per play and held a running back, Logan Wiland, who ran for 236 yards in its season opener against East Stroudsburg, to just seven yards on 16 carries.
Â
Wiggins finished the day with five tackles, including the safety. He registered 3.5 tackles for a loss. Ch'aim Smith (York, Pa./York Suburban) led the team with six stops, 2.5 TFL and one sack. He was also credited with a QB hurry.
Â
West Chester's defense harassed Seton Hill all afternoon, posting six QB hurries, three sacks and intercepting one pass.
Â
West Chester hits the road next Saturday for its first league contest at Millersville.
