Anderson’s Career Night Sparks West Chester’s, 76-69, Win Over Lock Haven

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Redshirt senior guard Alexis Anderson (Allentown, Pa. / Louis E. Dieruff) tied a career high with 25 points to lead West Chester University women's basketball past Lock Haven, 76-69, on Wednesday night.

The win gives sixth-year head coach Kiera Wooden 100 for her head coaching career, all at West Chester. The former West Chester player and 2003 graduate has never missed the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Tournament as head coach of the team, and she's led the Golden Rams to three NCAA Playoff appearances.

The Golden Rams (6-9 overall, 4-6 PSAC), now winners of three games in a row, handed the Bald Eagles (8-7, 5-5) their first home loss of the 2019-20 season.

West Chester trailed with 2:48 left in the second quarter all the way until 9:18 left in the fourth when senior Gabrielle Troisi (Norristown, Pa. / Pope John Paul II) knocked down a jump shot to put the Golden Rams ahead 57-55. Lock Haven led by as many as eight points on multiple occasions in the third quarter before letting the lead slip away.

Up 70-69 with 2:21 remaining in regulation, WCU freshman Sasha Marvel (Medford Lakes, N.J. / Caravel Academy) knocked down a pair of free throws that sparked a 6-0 run to close out the game.

Anderson has now scored 25 points three times in her collegiate career, but her nine rebounds, five threes and four steals on Wednesday were all career highs in 28 minutes played.

Troisi played a game-high 38 minutes en route to six points, seven rebounds and six assists while freshman Leah Johnson (Columbus, N.J. / Notre Dame) chipped in with 13 points and seven rebounds.

With 12 games remaining on their regular season schedule, all against PSAC opponents, the Golden Rams have climbed right back into the postseason picture with the three straight wins against conference teams. West Chester had lost five straight by a mere 16 points combined before turning its luck around.

WCU's next game is at home at Hollinger Field House on Saturday at 1 p.m. against Kutztown University. Snowfall is expected on Saturday so please stick with us for potential updates on a change of date and/or time for the game against the Golden Bears.
