WCU Looking To Get On Track At Home vs. Shippensburg, Away vs. Mansfield

WEST CHESTER, Pa. - West Chester University women's basketball has managed to string together one tough loss after another en route to a 3-9 overall and 1-6 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference start to the season.

Despite being six games under .500, the Golden Rams have only scored 30 less points than their opponents this season. An impressive 99-96 win over then No. 22-ranked Glenville State on November 10 seemed to have West Chester in good shape. But now the Golden Rams are desperate for one of these close finishes to end in their favor before the season gets out of hand.

With Shippensburg University (8-5, 5-2) coming to Hollinger Field House on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., the schedule will not get easier for West Chester. However, no opponent has been too tough for the Golden Rams to hold their own against this season. They lost 69-66 at Edinboro University (3-4, 5-6) on Monday night. The Golden Rams have now lost four straight to the Fighting Scots since 2016-17, but the last three defeats were by 21.6 on average.

Saturday's road game is at 1 p.m. versus Mansfield University (1-6, 3-10). That will surely be a game West Chester expects to win.

WCU guard Leah Johnson (Columbus, N.J. / Notre Dame) has come into her own during her freshman season, averaging 20.7 points per game over the last three contests. She's now leading the Golden Rams at 13.4 points on average this season.

Junior Justyn Roberts (Harrisburg, Pa. / C.D. East), senior Katherine Fisher (Rutledge, Pa. / Strath Haven) and redshirt senior Alexis Anderson (Allentown, Pa. / Louis E. Dieruff) are also averaging double-digit point totals for West Chester this season.

Sixth-year head coach Kiera Wooden is three wins away from 100 for her career, all at West Chester. The WCU alum has a .708 winning percentage during her time leading the Golden Rams.

PARKING MAP - Sharpless Street Garage will be the best option, and it becomes free 90 minutes prior to the women's game set for 5:30 pm. and remains open well after the men's game ends. The men's game begins at 7:30 p.m.
