WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Seniors
Gabrielle Troisi (Norristown, Pa. / Pope John Paul II) and
Alexis Anderson (Allentown, Pa. / Louis E. Dieruff) made clutch shots down the stretch to lead West Chester University women's basketball to a 65-62 win over Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division rival Shippensburg University on Wednesday at Hollinger Field House.
It was a team effort as all seven West Chester scorers dropped at least seven points. Anderson and sophomore
Tacari Talford (Robesonia, Pa. / Conrad Weiser) each scored ten, and Troisi led the way with 12.
The Golden Rams (4-9 overall, 2-6 PSAC) took a 14-3 lead over the Raiders (5-3, 8-6) halfway through the first quarter, the largest lead of the game. The Raiders responded in the second quarter, forcing a 28-28 gridlock going into halftime. West Chester maintained the lead for 15 minutes of the second half but was down late.
Trailing 58-56 with 2:56 left in regulation, Anderson responded with four points and Troisi had five. The Golden Rams finished the game on a 9-2 run.
The Golden Rams held a 64-62 lead with 33 seconds left as the Raiders looked to force overtime. Shippensburg was on the attack as Troisi stole the ball with five seconds remaining.
Troisi went 5-for-12 from the field and earned a team-high nine rebounds on the day. She's leading the Golden Rams at 7.8 rebounds per game this season.
This is the eighth straight contest for West Chester that has been decided by single digits.
West Chester is on the road on Saturday as it faces off against Mansfield. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
