MEET RESULTS
WEST CHESTER, Pa. - West Chester University's women's gymnastics squad scored a 190.75 to easily outdistance its two competitors in the team's home opening tri-meet inside Sturzebecker Health Science Center Saturday afternoon.
West Chester won three of the four events en route to a 190.75 score that was better than Springfield College's 187.7, or Rhode Island College's 179.1. Springfield won the balance beam with a team score of 47.225. The Golden Rams also took first place in three of the four events as well.
Melanie Wojewoda (Cincinnati, Ohio) won the uneven bars with a 9.8, outdistancing teammates
Samantha Gill (San Clemente, Calif.) and
Jessica Meakim (Downingtown, Pa.), who each scored a 9.725 and 9.65, respectively, in leading the Golden Rams to a sweep of the top three spots in that event. West Chester also claimed the top three spots on the floor exercise with Meakim leading the way this time with a 9.8.
Rose Fanara (Fredericksburg, Va.) and
McKenna Kissinger (Chambersburg, Pa.) were second and third, respectively, with a 9.775 and 9.75.
Junior
Yoli Nodarse (Pompton Plains, N.J.) won the balance beam with a 9.75. Springfield's Taylor Campagnone was second with a 9.65, and West Chester's
Jordan Miranda (Winchester, Mass.) was third with a 9.6. Miranda's 9.6 was one of 11 scores at, or above, that mark on the afternoon for the hosts.
On the vault, freshman
Kiah Johnson (Philadelphia, Pa.) was second behind Springfield's Taylor Jackson with a 9.625. Jackson won the event with a 9.675. Meakim placed third with a 9.575.
Meakim posted a 38.25 in the all-around to claim first in that category. Rhode Island's Kelsey Gates was second with a 37.05.
West Chester welcomes its alumni back to Sturzebecker HSC next Saturday for another home meet on Alumni Day against SUNY-Cortland at 1 p.m.
