Golden Rams Take Loss At Kutztown

KUTZTOWN, Pa. - West Chester University women's basketball lost 69-54 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division matchup at Kutztown University on Wednesday night.

The Golden Rams (8-16 overall, 6-13 PSAC) had a good start against the Golden Bears (16-9, 13-6) as WCU freshman Leah Johnson (Columbus, N.J. / Notre Dame) drained a three-pointer to put her team up 10-6 just 4:57 into the start of the game. However, Kutztown went on a 17-4 run to close out the first quarter and never looked back for the rest of the game.

Johnson played 35 minutes, scored 16 points and recorded three steals. The freshman is second on the team at 11.9 points per game this season. Redshirt senior Alexis Anderson (Allentown, Pa. / Louis E. Dieruff), who scored 13 points off the bench on Wednesday, is averaging a team-best 12.4 points per game. She made 5-of-8 shots against Kutztown.

Junior center Justyn Roberts (Harrisburg, Pa. / C.D. East) chipped in with 10 points in 25 minutes off the bench, making 3-of-5 field goals and all four free throws that she attempted.

The Golden Rams welcome Lock Haven University to Hollinger Field House on Saturday at 1 p.m. for Senior Day. Anderson, senior forward Katherine Fisher (Rutledge, Pa. / Strath Haven) and senior guard Gabrielle Troisi (Norristown, Pa. / Pope John Paul II) will be honored before pregame as part of the Senior Day festivities.

Saturday's game will also be dedicated to the #Play4Kay initiative intended to raise awareness for breast cancer. We encourage fans to wear pink to the game that will include t-shirt sales, raffle sales and a half-court shooting contest with proceeds going toward the Kay Yow Fund.
