WEST CHESTER, Pa. - West Chester University women's basketball took a 71-60 loss to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division opponent Lock Haven University on Saturday at Hollinger Field House.
Â
The Golden Rams (8-17 overall, 6-14 PSAC) recognized
Alexis Anderson (Allentown, Pa. / Louis E. Dieruff),
Katherine Fisher (Rutledge, Pa. / Strath Haven) and
Gabrielle Troisi (Norristown, Pa. / Pope John Paul II) prior to the game as part of the Senior Day festivities.
Â
WCU jumped out to a 10-5 advantage in the first 3:10 of gameplay when Anderson made a layup. However, the Bald Eagles (10-10, 13-12) closed out the half on a 14-4 run, and they never gave up the lead after that.
Â
Nonetheless, the Golden Rams did not go down easily. They trailed by double digits with 4:55 left in the second quarter all the way until Anderson made a free throw to make the score 64-55 with 1:09 remaining in the fourth. West Chester scratched and clawed, but it didn't come within any closer than six when freshman guard
Leah Johnson (Columbus, N.J. / Notre Dame) made a gritty layup with 56 seconds to go in regulation.
Â
WCU junior center
Justyn Roberts (Harrisburg, Pa. / C.D. East) made 8-of-9 free throws en route to a team-high 16 points. Anderson chipped in with 10.
Â
West Chester will miss the PSAC Tournament for the first time in head coach
Kiera Wooden's six-year tenure. The Golden Rams play at home for the last time this season on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. against Millersville University.
