Distance Events Leads WCU Women to Second-Place Showing At ESU

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. The West Chester University women's indoor track & field team placed second overall in Friday's quad meet hosted by East Stroudsburg University.
 
The Golden Rams took four of the top six places in the mile as Alissa VandeBunte (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) placed first with a time of 5 minutes, 15.94 seconds. Sarah Supplee (Orefield, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh) was right behind in second place with a 5:16.08 time. Elizabeth Edwards (Kennet Square, Pa./Unionville) and Tara McLaughlin (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) placed fourth and sixth with respective times of 5:27.41 and 5:29.17. All four times were PSAC-qualifying marks for West Chester. VandeBunte, Edwards and McLaughlin also set new personal bests.
 
West Chester also had three top finishes in the 5000-meter run with Bridget Palm (York, Pa./Central York) taking first place with a 19:35.05 finish. Sydney Galster (Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Ford) and Carlee Lasko (Topton, Pa./Brandywine Heights) earned second and fourth place, respectively, with times of 19:38.71 and 19:57.68. Lasko's time was a new personal best.
 
Caroline Lewis (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) and Brianna VandeBunte (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) earned second and third for West Chester in the 800m with times of 2:24.92 and 2:25.88, respectively, with each time earning PSAC-qualifying marks.
 
Maddie James (York, Pa./York Suburban) and Graycen Keener (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) earned fourth and fifth place in the 55m hurdles with PSAC-qualifying times of 8.96 and 9.03, respectively. Cara Jackson (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) placed fifth in the 400m with a time of 1:02.67.
 
West Chester's "A" team of Lewis, Jackson, James, and Sydnie Smith (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) placed first in the 4x400m with a final time of 4:09.59.
 
In the 55m dash, Jordan Walk (Morgantown, Pa./Twin Valley) placed sixth with a time of 7.69. Moving into the field, Walk earned fourth place in the long jump with a 16-foot, 3 ¼ inch mark.
 
In the triple jump, Olivia Embleton (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro), Emma Brodhag (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent) and Smith earned second, fourth, and sixth in the triple jump with respective marks of 36-7, 35-11.25 and 34-11.75, all earning PSAC-qualifying marks.
 
Corah Krantz (Mayfield, Pa./Lakeland) placed second in the pole vault with a mark of 10-10. In the weight throw, Susanna Shier (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) placed fifth with a mark of 45-9.25. Also placing fifth was Zhayria Washington (West Chester, Pa./West Chester Rustin) in the shot put with a mark of 37-9.5. All three marks were PSAC-qualifying marks in their respective events.
 
West Chester will return to action on Friday as they travel to Staten Island, N.Y. to compete in the Fasttrack Invitational.
