Strong Second Half Lifts No. 2 West Chester Past Bloomsburg, 6-2

WEST CHESTER, PA - Sr., defender Dara Spavlik (Hockessin, Del./Conrad) registered a hat trick, and West Chester scored five unanswered goals in the second half to erase a one-goal deficit in a 6-2 conference field hockey win over visiting Bloomsburg Wednesday afternoon at Vonnie Gros Field.

West Chester (10-2, 5-1 PSAC) won its second straight game and have now won seven of its last eight while Bloomsburg (7-6, 1-4) dropped its third straight contest. The Golden Rams scored twice in the third and three times in the fourth to put the game out of reach.

Spavlik netted all three of her tallies off penalty corners teaming up with Taylor Orsi (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) and Valerie Van Kuijck (Denbosch, The Netherlands) on the first two and then finishing off a pass from Caitie MacNamara (Buderim, Australia) for the third. MacNamara finished with three assists in the win.

Bloomsburg struck first when Kristen Robinson converted a penalty stroke early in the second quarter. Spavlik's first strike off a penalty corner tied the game two minutes later in the second. However, the Huskies jumped back out in front with just over one minute remaining in the first half.

Montana Ott (Mount Bethel, Pa./Bangor) cleaned up a rebound of a MacNamara blast early in the third to tie things up at 2-apiece. Spavlik's second goal gave West Chester a lead it would not relinquish. Claudia Jaszczak (Coatesville, Pa./Downingtown West) and Cameron Smith (Lewes, Del./Cape Henlopen) scored nine minutes apart to push the advantage to 5-2.

Bloomsburg goalkeeper Abby Shaffer was spectacular in the cage making 14 saves. West Chester's Claire Nielsen (Wescosville, Pa./Emmaus) made one save for the Golden Rams. West Chester held a 36-6 advantage in shots and a 13-3 advantage in corners.

The Golden Rams return to Vonnie Gros Field on Saturday at 4 p.m. for a PSAC contest against Seton Hill.
