Balanced Attack Carries West Chester Past Shepherd

WEST CHESTER, PA – The West Chester women's soccer team (8-2-1, 8-2-1) defeated Shepherd University 4-2 in a PSAC showdown on Saturday afternoon inside Rockwell Field.

The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) foe established a lead early on when Paris Kimbrell scored her first goal of the match for Shepherd (2-8-1, 1-8-1) just moments in at hte 2:17 mark.

West Chester answered back in the 11th minute when Madison Bowman (Cogan Station, PA / Williamsport) crossed to Maggie Lena (Santa Monica, CA / Santa Monica / Marquette) to tie the score 1-1.

The Golden Rams kept possession and cleared the way for Bowman to make another pass that set sophomore midfielder Julia Raybold (Elizabethtown, PA / Elizabethtown) to score, giving West Chester a 2-1 lead.

Raybold kept the good times going and crossed to Kaitlynn Haughey (Philadelphia, PA / Penn Charter) in the 33rd minute. Haughey scored her fifth goal of the season at 34:00, leaving the score 3-1 West Chester at the half.

With nearly 10 minutes to go in the match, freshman midfielder Olivia Ancone (Washington Township, PA / Washington Township) scored her first goal of her young career off a pass from Jordyn Dupes (Middletown, PA / Middletown) lifting the score to 4-1 in favor of the Golden Rams.

With Ancone's tally on Saturday afternoon, she became the 16th different Golden Ram to score a goal for the Purple and Gold this season.

Shepherd's Paris Kimbrell scored again in the 84th minute to tally the final score 4-2 West Chester.

Hayley McGee (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) got the start in goal and made four saves over her 82 minutes of work before exiting in favor of Audrey Schweizerhoff (Perkasie, Pa./Dock Mennonite) who made a pair of saves in the final eight minutes to preserve the victory. Shepherd goalkeeper Lulu Fricks, had a busy day between the pipes as well, making six saves of her own in the setback.
 
As a team, West Chester ended the contest with a 19-10 advantage in shots (10-8 shots on goal) and a 5-2 edge in corners. 

The Golden Rams will return to action at Rockwell Field on Wednesday to challenge Lock Haven at 2:30 p.m.
