INDIANAPOLIS, IND - West Chester University received the No. 5 seed in the 2021 NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Tournament announced Monday evening.
The Golden Rams (11-4-2) will take on University of Charleston (WV) [15-5-0], which received the fourth seed in the Atlantic Region, on Friday, Nov. 19. The winner of that contest will face Kutztown University (17-1-1) in the second round on Sunday, Nov. 21 at 2 p.m. Kutztown is the top seed in the region and the host for this portion of the Atlantic Region bracket.
It marks the 18th straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament for the Golden Rams, tying them with 2019 defending champion Grand Valley State for the longest current streak of tournament appearances. The 18 consecutive appearances by both GVSU and WCU is one shy of the Division II record of 19 by Franklin Pierce (1992-2010).
West Chester has not missed an NCAA Tournament since 2002. This is also the 14th consecutive year that West Chester has received a bid under head coach
Betty Ann Kempf Townsley. She has not missed out on a dance since taking over on the Golden Rams' sideline in 2007. West Chester is 17-13-8 all-time in the NCAA Division II Tournament.
Â
Concord is the No. 2 seed and host of the other side of the bracket in the Atlantic Region. The Mountain Lions will take on Mercyhurst in the first round while three-seed Bloomsburg battles sixth-seeded Gannon in the other game at Concord University.
