Women's Track and Field Competes at Seahawk Shootout; Supplee and Washington Qualify for PSAC Championships

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.- Sarah Supplee (Orefield, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh) and Zhayria Washington (West Chester, Pa./West Chester Rustin) each posted PSAC Qualifying results to lead West Chester at the 20-team Seahawk Shootout hosted by Wagner on Friday evening.

On the track, Supplee turned in an impressive performance in the 3k, winning the event easily with a time of 10 minutes and 2.89 seconds, to outdistance her competitors, including a host of Division I runners by almost 16 full seconds. This time, which ranks among the top times in all of Division II so far this season, also serves as a PSAC Qualifying mark for the sophomore while also going down as the third fastest 3k time in team history. Supplee also bettered her previous personal-best time of 10:18.79, which she set inside Ocean Breeze as a freshman in February 2020.

West Chester also got a number of other strong performances on the track on Friday evening as Ava Hostetler (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) set a new personal-best in the 60M dash, with a time of 8.28 seconds to finish 13th in this event. Hostetler was one of three Golden Rams to compete in this event as Gabby Curtis (Harrisburg, Pa./C.D. East), who remains the Golden Rams leader in this event so far this season, after her performance at the Fast Times meet a week ago, was 22nd with a time of 8.41 seconds while Jordan Walk (Morgantown, Pa./Twin Valley) was close behind her with a time of 8.44 seconds

In the mile, Joey Gaffin (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) also registered a top-15 finish for the Golden Rams, finishing in 13th with a time of 5:50.11.

Curtis and Kacie Hoppel (Dover, Pa./Dover) led the Golden Ram contingent in the 300 and 600, respectively with times of 43.99 seconds and 1:50.10 to finish 29th in each race.

In the field events, Washington registered her top performance of the evening in the weight throw, hitting a lifetime best with a mark of 43 feet 10 inches (13.36 meters) to finish 10th in this event. Washington also registered a top-10 finish in the shot put, with a mark of 38-8 ¼ (11.79 meters) to finish seventh with a PSAC Qualifying mark as well.

In the shot put, Adrianna Bryant (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) narrowly missed a top-10 of her own with a mark of 35-4 (10.77 meters) while Emma Urbine (Quarryville, Pa./Solanco) registered strong performances in the shot put (21st-30-4 ¼) and weight throw (17th-34-11 ¾).

In addition to the performances from Washington and Urbine in the weight throw, Sydney Dolbier (Stafford Springs, Ct./Stanfford) also turned in 15th-place showing with a mark of 37-0 ½ .
Hostetler continued her strong night in the field events, as she registered a fifth-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 16-7 ¾ (5.07 meters) to lead a trio of Golden Rams in this event, including Walk who narrowly missed a top-10 finish with a mark of 15-9 ½ (4.81 meters).

Jayla Godfrey (Felton, Pa./Red Lion) competed for West Chester in both the long jump and high jump with a top-10 finish coming in the high jump after registering a mark of 4-7 ¼ (1.40 meters) to finish ninth in this event.

Corah Krantz (Mayfield, Pa./Lakeland) registered an impressive finish of her own in the pole vault, clearing a height of 11-0 (3.35 meters) to land an eighth-place finish as the top-Division II finisher in the event.

Tonight, was the Golden Rams final meet of the 2021 half of their schedule, as the team will not return to action until January 15th at the TCNJ Indoor Invite inside the Armory in New York City.
