MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - The West Chester University baseball team was on the road Saturday afternoon at Millersville University losing the doubleheader; 5-1 in game one and 14-3 in game two. The Golden Rams are now 9-7 on the season as well as in the conference.
GAME ONE
- The Marauders were the first to score on a ground out to second base from Luke Trainer to take the lead 1-0.
- In the bottom of the fourth, Nick Mancuso singled to third base allowing a runner to score on a throwing error and score for Millersville. The Marauders grabbed two more runs on a hit by pitch play and a walk to put them up 4-0.
- Millersville's Mark Miller homered to left field in the bottom of the sixth to collect an RBI and stretch the lead to 5-0.
- In the top of the seventh, graduate student Zack Wright (Burlington, NJ./North Burlington County Regional/ LaSalle) scored the only run of the game for the Golden Rams with a single to left field.
GAME TWO
- In the top of the first, Millersville scored three runs on a single from Trainer and homerun by Cole Friese to put them in the lead, 3-0.
- A double to left field from Eric Callahan and fly out to center field from Justin Taylor put the Marauders up 5-0 at the end of the third inning.
- In the bottom of the fourth Millersville scored five runs from two walks, a double down the left line, and a fly out to center field to stretch their lead to 10-0.
- Senior Keith Flaherty (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) hit a homerun for the Golden Rams in the top of the fifth to score one run for West Chester.
- Millersville was able to score four more runs in the bottom of the fifth on two singles and an out to first base from the pitcher, advancing the lead to 14-1.
- In the top of the sixth, junior Luke Cantwell (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) singled to right field grab an RBI for WCU. Flaherty singled up the middle and an advance on a throwing error allowed another run for the Golden Rams and ended the game 14-3.
GAME ONE| INSIDE THE STATS
- Senior Culver Hughes (Exton, Pa./West Chester, Pa./Virginia Tech) pitched seven innings for the Golden Rams and threw three strikeouts.
- Senior Justin Horn (Willow Street, Pa./Upper Dublin), junior Hunter Hall (Lincoln University, Pa./Oxford Area), Flaherty, and Wright all had one hit for West Chester.
GAME TWO|INSIDE THE STATS
- Freshman Andrew Cantwell (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) pitched three innings and five strikeouts for WCU.
- L. Cantwell now has 21 hits on the season and leads the team thus far.
West Chester is back on the field on Friday, April 23 when they host Kutztown for a doubleheader. Games scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
