Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader on the Road at East Stroudsburg

WEST CHESTER, PAJustin Horn (Willow Grove, Pa./Upper Dublin) was a combined 4-for-7 with four RBI to lead a hit parade on Tuesday afternoon at Creek View Park as West Chester swept a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) baseball doubleheader on the road at East Stroudsburg.
 
West Chester (11-7, 11-7 PSAC East) ended a three-game slide by rapping out a combined 26 hits and scoring a combined 21 runs against East Stroudsburg (13-14, 11-11). Luke Cantwell (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) went a combined 5-for-7 with three runs scored in the sweep as well. Younger brother, Andrew Cantwell (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown), picked up his first college win on the mound in game two.
 
GAME ONE
  • West Chester scored six runs in the second inning to take control. The Golden Rams raced out to a 7-0 lead before the Warriors got on the board. WCU scored six in the second, one in the third and pair of runs in each of the next three frames.
  • Horn had a 2-run single in the six-run second. He added another RBI in the sixth.
  • Zack Wright (Burlington, N.J./Northern Burlington County), batting in the leadoff spot, went 3-for-6 with three runs scored and a pair of RBI as well.
 
INSIDE THE STATS | GAME ONE
  • Jack Slade (McLean, Va./McLean) improved to 3-1 with the win in the opener. He threw 4.2 innings, allowing six runs on five hits. He struck out four and walked four.
 
GAME TWO
  • West Chester answered a four-run first inning by East Stroudsburg with four tallies of its own in the second to tie the score. The Golden Rams again strung together scoring innings by pushing across three in the third and one more in the fourth.
  • Nolan Bolton (Souderton, Pa./Christopher Dock) singled in a run, and Brian Verratti (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) hit a three-run homer in that big second inning.
  • Nick D'Amore (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored.
  • Bolton finished the game 3-for-4.
INSIDE THE STATS | GAME TWO
  • West Chester's bullpen tossed 3.2 innings of scoreless baseball in the win.
  • Starter Christian Kinsley (Coplay, Pa./Parkland) lasted 3.1 innings.
  • Freshman Andrew Cantwell (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) picked up his first college win in relief.
 
West Chester baseball is back home on Friday afternoon against Kutztown for a doubleheader at Maple Zone. Games are scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. for the Golden Rams.
