Cantwell and Wright Receive PSAC East Athlete of the Week Honors

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - West Chester University freshman Andrew Cantwell (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) and graduate student Zach Wright (Burlington, NJ./Northern Burlington County Regional) both were named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East Division Baseball Athlete of the Week on Monday afternoon.

Cantwell went 2-0 last week in two appearances with a 1.04 earned run average. He surrendered just one run on six hits in 8.2 innings of work last week while striking out 11 batters. He pitched a complete game in an 18-1 win over Kutztown on Saturday. He struck out eight batters in that victory against the Golden Bears. He also pitched 1.2 innings in relief at East Stroudsburg but earned the victory in the second game of the doubleheader.

Wright went 13-for-26 (.500) with 12 runs scored and 12 RBI leading West Chester to a 5-1 week. He hit three doubles, two triples and two home runs while also stealing four bases in as many attempts. In the first game of a four-game series against Kutztown, Wright went 4-for-4 with four runs scored and three RBI, including two doubles and one home run. In the doubleheader, he went 7-for-9 with six runs and six RBI. He had multiple hits in four of the Golden Rams' six games last week. In four games against Kutztown, Wright had 10 hits and 10 RBIs.
 
West Chester baseball is 14-8 overall and 14-8 in the PSAC East Division, in second place behind Millersville.
 
The Golden Rams are on the road Thursday afternoon against Shippensburg for a doubleheader. The games are scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
