LAKEWOOD, N.J. – Sarah Polacek (Johnstown, Pa./Westmont Hilltop) registered a combined 22 kills, and
Jaime Byrne (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) posted a combined 56 assists as West Chester's women's volleyball squad split a pair of non-league contests with Queens College (NY) and host Georgian Court Saturday.
West Chester (3-3) downed Queens (1-5) in straight sets, 25-13, 25-20, 25-22, before falling to Georgian Court (7-0), 25-22, 25-22, 18-25, 14-25, 9-15.
Polacek was the only Golden Rams player in double figures with 12 kills against Queens. She hit at a .233 percentage for the match.
Maddy Moore (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) and
Mel June (Morton, Pa./Ridley) posted 12 and 11 digs, respectively, in the win.
West Chester held the Knights to a hitting percentage under 1.00, registering eight blocks.
In the nightcap, the Golden Rams captured the first two sets of the match, riding the momentum from the morning's victory. However, the Lions disrupted that energy and turned the pendulum in their favor to stay unbeaten on the season.
The Golden Rams put up a negative hitting percentage in two of the last three sets, while conversely, the Lions hit .533 in the fourth set and .333 in the final set.
Polacek had 10 kills and
Grace Whitney (Glenside, Pa./Abington) 7 kills in the loss. June recorded 13 more digs as well.
West Chester returns to the friendly confines of Hollinger Field House on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. non-league match against Felician.
