Women's Volleyball Sweeps a Pair of Matches Saturday

WILMINGTON, DE - West Chester University's Women's Volleyball team was busy sweeping the court in Wilmington on Saturday, winning a pair of matches in straight sets, 3-0, over both Bowie State and Goldey-Beacom.
 
The Golden Rams (5-3) took control in the opener against Bowie State (1-4), winning by scores of 25-10, 25-14 and 25-10. West Chester closed out the day with a win by scores of 25-18, 25-19 and 25-21 against host Goldey-Beacom (4-7).
 
Against Bowie State, West Chester's outside hitter Julia Vreeswyk (Yardley, PA / Pennsbury), making her 2021 debut, finished off 11 kills while setter Jamie Byrne (Bethlehem, PA / Liberty) posted 18 assists and an additional seven digs - most in the match. The Golden Rams hit .250 in the match while Bowie was held to a negative percentage. Olivia Rudjord (Fogelsville, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) was a big presence in the middle with five kills and a team-best five blocks.
 
Two hours later in the second match, Sarah Polacek (Johnstown, PA / Westmont Hilltop) posted 11 kills Vreeswyk added another 10. Jamie Byrne (Bethlehem, PA / Liberty) added 36 assists and 10 digs.Rudjord and Grace Whitney (Glenside, PA/Abington) each contributed seven kills apiece. West Chester improved upon its hitting from the morning match registering a .279 hitting percentage.
 
West Chester heads back to Delaware on Thursday with a non-league match at Wilmington University at 7 p.m.
