SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV – Matt Dade (Collegeville, Pa./Episcopal) scored a team-high 21 points, but visiting West Chester dropped a 70-65 men's basketball contest to host Shepherd Monday evening inside the Butcher Center.
West Chester (10-8, 5-8 PSAC) held a 65-64 lead with 2:32 left in the game. However, Shepherd (9-9, 5-7) closed out the tilt with six straight points while holding the Golden Rams scoreless to send the guests to their second straight defeat.
Dade put up 14 of his 21 points after halftime to lead the charge for the Golden Rams in the second half.
Shepherd, which outrebounded West Chester 18-9 over the first 20 minutes of the game, clung to a one-point lead at the break, 33-32. The Rams then opened the second half on a 10-0 run that opened up an 11-point lead for the hosts.
However, Dade sparked a 7-0 run later in the second half that drew the Golden Rams back to within a point (52-51) with 10:21 left. A
Robert Smith (Philadelphia, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) 3-pointer evened the game with 9:52 left, and a jumper from Dade put West Chester in front with just over nine minutes to play. Smith finished with eight points off the bench for the Golden Rams.
These two teams will go at it again on Wednesday inside Hollinger Field House at 7:30 p.m.
