Women's Volleyball Bounces Back with 3-0 Sweep of Millersville

WEST CHESTER, Pa.-Brynn Dreisbach (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) registered a match-high 16 kills as West Chester (14-6, 4-4) halted a five-match losing streak with a convincing 3-0 victory over Millersville (12-10, 3-5) inside Hollinger Field House on Tuesday night.

Dreisbach was one of two Golden Rams in double figures for kills as fellow newcomer Elise Smith (New Market, Md./Oakdale) logged 11 of her own while Tori Wright (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) finished the match with seven kills and a team-best four aces to help lead West Chester to the victory.

The match was tight throughout, featuring 26 ties and 10 lead changes, including a third set, which saw 15 ties and four lead changes before the Golden Rams pulled away for the 25-21 set victory and a 3-0 win in the match.

West Chester and Millersville traded points through the early going of the first set before Millersville eventually found its way out to 15-12 lead midway through the set, prompting a West Chester timeout. Out of this timeout, West Chester went on a 4-1 run to even the score and prompt a Millersville timeout. The two sides continued to trade points through the balance of the set before West Chester eventually closed out the first set with a 25-23 victory to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

After a first set, which featured nine ties and five lead changes, West Chester jumped out to an early 11-6 lead before Millersville began to fight its way back into the match, trimming the deficit to 16-12 before West Chester pulled away to close out the set with a 25-17 victory and claim a 2-0 lead in the match.

Not going down without a fight, Millersville and West Chester traded points throughout much of the early part of the set but it was the Marauders who held a 13-12 lead midway through the set, prompting a quick timeout by the Golden Rams. Following the timeout, West Chester seized momentum, eventually taking a 24-21 lead late in the third set, prompting a Millersville timeout as the Marauders looked to hang on and force a fourth set but Hailey Lewis (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) closed out the match with an ace to lift West Chester to a 25-21 third set win and a 3-0 victory.

Jamie Byrne (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) logged 41 assists while Sydney Heffner (Bath, Pa./Northampton) logged 21 digs to help lead West Chester to the victory.

As a team, West Chester hit .276 on the match, including second-set performance, which saw the Golden Rams hit .346 in the eight-point set win. For Millersville, Rose Vail led the way with 13 kills as
the Marauders hit .214 as a team in the road setback.
