WEST CHESTER, PA – Shippensburg scored 20 second-half points and came all the way back to earn a 20-13 victory over host West Chester on Homecoming Weekend at John A. Farrell Stadium Saturday afternoon.
West Chester (3-3, 1-2 PSAC East), which hadn't allowed a point in the second half in its last three games, yielded 20 second-half points to Shippensburg (3-3, 2-1) on Saturday and dropped its second straight contest.
Freshman QB
Ethan Kohler (Schwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) finished 18-for-34 for 328 yards and one interception in the loss. Wide Receiver
Rahiem Bowens (Lansdowne, Pa./Penn Wood) caught five passes for 100 yards – recording the first 100-yard receiving day by a Golden Rams wide out all season. Kohler's 330 yards passing was a season-high for West Chester quarterbacks. In fact, it was the first time a QB threw for more than 200 yards in a game.
For the second consecutive game, West Chester had a punt blocked that resulted in a TD. Last week, Bloomsburg scooped up a punt block and raced into the end zone. This week, Shippensburg blocked a punt and then jumped on the loose ball in the end zone.
Ja'Den McKenzie (Morton, Pa./Springfield) scored on a 1-yard scamper in the first quarter to put the Rams up 7-0.
Sean Henry (Reading, Pa./Exeter) kicked a pair of field goals in the second to extend the lead to 13-0.
West Chester hits the road next Saturday for another PSAC East tilt at East Stroudsburg.
