West Chester Upsets Kutztown on the Road, 28-9

KUTZTOWN, PA – Ja'Den McKenzie (Morton, Pa./Springfield) rushed for a pair of touchdowns while quarterback Cooper Jordan (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) threw a TD pass and ran for another to lead visiting West Chester to a 28-9 victory over host Kutztown Saturday afternoon at Andre Reed Stadium.

West Chester (6-4, 4-3 PSAC East) avoided a losing season in conference play with the upset win while Kutztown (7-3, 5-2) saw its five-game winning streak snapped.

The Golden Rams scored a TD in each of the four quarters and led from the start to pick up with win. Defensively, the Golden Bears were held to its lowest point output since Week 1.

Jordan hit D'Shaun Seals (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) on a 10-yard strike in the back of the end zone to put West Chester on top 7-0 following its first possession of the game.  Jordan added a 15-yard scamper on a run-pass option with seven minutes left before halftime that sent the Golden Rams into the locker room with a 14-0 advantage. Jordan was 3-for-9 for 30 yards through the air. He rushed for 129 yards on 20 totes.

McKenzie scored on a 1-yard dive in the third and a 7-yard run around the end in the fourth quarter to put the game away with four minutes to go. It capped the junior back's second straight two-score effort. He finished the game with 98 yards on 15 carries.

Jackson Taylor (Glenside, Pa./Abington) led the stellar defensive showing with 11 tackles, including 1.5 sacks. Zach DeMarchis (Pennsbury, Pa./Levittown) was credited with nine stops, including seven solo tackles, in the win.
