West Chester Comes From Behind on Final Rotation to Down Cornell

MEET RESULTS

WEST CHESTER, PA – Senior Jessica Meakim (Downingtown, Pa.) anchored a new school record on the floor exercise that enabled host West Chester to come from behind on its final rotation to defeat visiting Cornell, 193.625-193.525, in a Gymnastics East Conference (GEC) dual meet inside Sturzebecker Health Science Center Friday night.

West Chester trailed by .125 when its turn on the floor exercise came up, and the Golden Rams did not waste the opportunity. Four of the six performing on the floor either set, or tied, their career bests, and West Chester eclipsed its school record with a 49.15 overall.

Meakim equaled her career-best with a 9.925 in front of the home crowd for one final time. McKenna Kissinger (Chambersburg, Pa.) also put up a career high of a 9.875 in her final home meet. Caroline Cascadden (Ashburn, Va.) posted a new best with a 9.825, and Annie Bailey (Chelmsford, Ma.) recorded a career high in her final home meet with a 9.775. Meakim and Kissinger ran 1-2 in the final individual standings on the floor.

Meakim's all-around score of 39.075 was a new career high as well, marking the first time in her collegiate career that her all-around score peaked north of 39.000.

Jordan Coleman (Bowie, Md.) won the uneven bars with a 9.85 that sits as a new personal best for the freshman. She led a West Chester contingent that also hit a season best score in that event with a 48.65. Hyla Betts (Shannock, R.I.) set a new personal best with a 9.75 while Lauren Wicker (East Berlin, Pa.) tied her career high with a 9.625.

Kiah Johnson (Philadelphia, Pa.) tied for first on the vault with Cornell's Donna Webster. They each registered a 9.775. Betts and teammate Lily McFarland (Baltimore, Md.) tied for third on the balance beam with a 9.675 each.

West Chester will head to the first GEC Championships next Saturday in Rhode Island on the campus of Brown University. Their competition time will depend on the team's National Qualifying Score (NQS) within its conference. The schools ranked fifth thru eighth will compete in an afternoon session with the top four schools competing in the evening session.
