LOCK HAVEN, PA – West Chester University was well represented on the 2022 All-PSAC East squad that was revealed Monday afternoon with seven total honorees – five first-team and two second-team members.
Keri Barnett (Glenolden, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) was named the Freshman of the Year as well.
West Chester (14-1, 11-1 PSAC East) earned a share of the regular-season title in the Eastern Division of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference this spring. The Golden Rams are ranked fourth in the latest Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) national poll as they embark on the postseason.
Joining Barnett on the first team all-league squad were
Lindsay Monigle (Rehoboth Beach, Del./Cape Henlopen),
Hannah Stanislawczyk (Mohnton, Pa./Gov. Mifflin),
Grace Frasso (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) and
Jessica Gorr (Exton, Pa./Bishop Shanahan). Second team honorees included
Helen Kreschollek (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley) and
Julia Rossi (Hamilton Square, N.J./Notre Dame).
Barnett certainly made a splash in her first college season. The midfielder earned a starting spot in game one and showed why the coaching staff was so high on her. She finished second on the team in goals scored (58), points (72) and ground balls (36) while leading the squad in draw controls with 68. Twice, she was lauded as the PSAC East athlete of the week.
She teamed very nicely with sophomore
Hannah Stanislawczyk, who turned in yet another stellar campaign. The lanky midfielder with a knack for sliding into small openings in-between defenders led the team in goals scored with 60 and was third in points with 67. Her seven game-winning goals led the team while her 66 draw controls ranked third.
Barnett and Stanislawczyk were the primary targets for senior attack
Lindsay Monigle, who led the team in scoring with 80 points. Monigle dished out 50 assists, second in the PSAC, and also scored 30 goals herself.
Frasso burst onto the scene in 2022 and proved herself to be one of the conference's top defensive midfielders. She ranked second on the team in draw controls with 67 and led the team with 38 ground balls. The New Jersey native secured over 100 possessions for the Golden Rams with her ability to get after loose balls on the turf. Frasso also ranked second on the team in caused turnovers with 30.
All of this happened in front of goalkeeper
Jessica Gorr, who won a fierce battle for the No. 1 spot in the cage and catapulted the Golden Rams back into the Top 5 in the country. After starting just three of the first seven games of the season, Gorr had a breakout 11-save performance against Shepherd and followed that up with back-to-back 15-save efforts that landed her IWLCA national defensive athlete of the week and PSAC athlete of the week in back-to-back weeks.
Gorr is undefeated on the season at 10-0 in the cage and ranks third on the team in ground balls with 30. She backstopped West Chester to a road win over East Stroudsburg, which is the top seed out of the Eastern Division in the PSAC Tournament.
Representing West Chester on the second team was graduate attacker
Helen Kreschollek and senior defender Julie Rossi. Kreschollek's imposing size in the fan was a lot for opposing defenses to handle. She ranked third on the team in goals scored with 33 and fourth in points with 37.
Rossi was a spark plug on defense for the Golden Rams all season. She led the squad with 34 caused turnovers and ranked fifth with 28 ground balls. She typically drew the opposition's top scorer and could shut down the other team's offense as a result.
West Chester opens the 2022 PSAC Tournament at home with a first-round matchup against Millersville at Vonnie Gros Field on Tuesday at 4 p.m. Admission to the conference tournament game is $10 for adults and $5 for students. Any student from a PSAC-member institution with a valid school ID will be admitted free. No comps or pass lists will be honored. Only PSAC passes will be accepted for admission.
The winner of the West Chester-Millersville contest advances to the conference semifinals to take on PSAC West Division champion Seton Hill at Dick's Clothing and Sporting Goods Field in Greensburg, Pa. on Friday.
