WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Former West Chester University assistant baseball coach, John Lemcke, passed away Aug. 6. He was 83.
Lemcke was a health and physical education professor at West Chester University for 30 years, including four years as Dean of the School of Health Sciences. During his 32-year tenure as an assistant baseball coach for West Chester University, he coached alongside legendary baseball head coach Neil Serpico for whom the current field is named. He was inducted into the WCU Athletics Hall of Fame in 1999.
Upon his retirement from coaching and teaching, Lemcke served on the WCU Athletics Hall of Fame selection committee from 2000 to 2009.
Lemcke is survived by his family of close friends and other relatives. He was predeceased in death by his parents, sisters, Sandra and Susan, infant son, Mark, and nephew, John Schuster.
Family, friends, and others whose lives Coach Lemcke touched, are invited to attend his visitation Saturday, August 27, 2022, from 2 to 3 p.m. at Christ Memorial Lutheran Church, 89 Line Road, Malvern, PA 19355. A celebration of life service is to follow at 3 p.m.
A burial service will be held on Monday, August 29, 2022, at 11 AM at Lakeside Cemetery, 1649 Moscow Road, Hamlin, NY 14464.
