WEST CHESTER, Pa.- After a scoreless first half, West Chester (5-1-0, 2-0-0 PSAC) found a pair of goals in the second half while redshirt-junior keeper
Daniel Good (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) made three big saves to keep Lock Haven (1-4-0, 0-1-0) off the scoreboard as West Chester cruised to a 2-0 victory in its PSAC East home opener.
West Chester generated its best opportunity of a scoreless first half just over three minutes in when
Frankie Taylor (Delran, N.J./Delran) found his way through the Bald Eagle defense but his shot when just high over the bar to keep the game scoreless.
Later in the half, Lock Haven generated an excellent chance of its own off a long free kick when Ryan Foskey got his head on a ball sent to the far post but his shot when just high as well to keep the game scoreless heading into the halftime break.
West Chester ended the first half with a 8-2 lead in shots and a 5-1 advantage in shots on goal while also ending the opening 45 minutes with a 3-2 lead in corners.
In the 69
th minute, West Chester got the goal it was looking for when
Trevor Looby (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) found his way on to the end of a long ball from Good and turned it into a 1-0 lead for West Chester with just over 20 minutes to play in the match.
Lock Haven nearly got the equalizer off a volley just moments later but Good was there to make a big save and keep the West Chester lead in tact as the game approached its 75
th minute.
West Chester added another insurance goal in the 86
th minute when Taylor dribbled along the endline and sent a perfect feed through the box to
Jason Goldfeder (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff) who finished past an off-balance keeper to give West Chester a commanding 2-0 advantage late in the contest.
West Chester ended the game with 17-8 advantage in shots and a 9-3 lead in shots on goal to go along with a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.
In goal, Good played well, making three big saves for his third consecutive shutout and 16
th career clean sheet, which moved him into solo second place in program history in shutouts while his counterpart turned in seven huge saves of his own to limit the potent West Chester offense.
