SHIPPENSBURG, Pa.- Daniel Good (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) made three saves to record his second consecutive shutout victory as West Chester (4-1-0, 1-0-0) rolled to a 3-0 victory over Shippensburg (2-1-0, 0-1-0) to open PSAC East play on a wet, and rainy Wednesday afternoon.
This afternoon's shutout victory was the second clean sheet of the year for Good and the Golden Rams, which also increases his career shutout total to 15, moving him into a tie for second in program history in career shutouts with Joe Bocklet (1995-98) and Sean Gablehouse (1998-01), just two shutouts shy of the program record of 17, which is currently held by Matt Palmer (2014-17).
West Chester wasted little time in taking an early lead as
Owen Slack (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) scored quickly just over a minute into the match off an assist from
Craig Potts (Stewartstown, Pa./Kennard Dale) to give the Golden Rams an early 1-0 advantage.
With an early lead intact just over a minute into the match, West Chester continued to pressure the Shippensburg defense, outshooting the Raiders 5-2 through the first 25 minutes of the match.
In the 30
th minute,
Andrew Markopoulos (Drexel Hill, Pa./Msgr. Bonner & Prendergast) nearly extended the lead with a header following a
Josh Daniels (Fleetwood, Pa./Oley Valley) but the chance went wide to keep the score locked at 1-0 in favor of the visiting Golden Rams.
West Chester opened the second-half scoring in the 65
th minute when
Trevor Looby (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) finished off an assist from
AJ Peev (Chalfont, Pa./C.B. South) to move the score to 2-0.
Landon Wenger (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) got in on the scoring moments later, adding a goal of his own in the 73
rd minute off an assist from
Ryan Keenan (Bethlehem, Pa./Northampton) to give West Chester a commanding 3-0 lead, which the Golden Rams would go on to win by.
West Chester ended the match with an impressive 18-9 advantage in shots and an 11-3 lead in shots on goal to go along with an 8-5 advantage in corners.
Good's counterpart, reigning PSAC East Defensive Player of the Week Cody Willoughby, worked hard in goal for the Raiders, making eight big saves throughout the afternoon in an attempt to slow the potent Golden Ram offense.
