WEST CHESTER, PA – West Chester University's women's gymnastics program opens the 2023 slate Sunday afternoon inside Sturzebecker HSC at 1 p.m. welcoming in Gymnastics East Conference (GEC) foes Southern Connecticut State University and University of Bridgeport.
Admission to all home gymnastics meets are free. Fans unable to attend the meet in person can follow Live Stats.
Head Coach Barb Cordova enters her 16th season at the helm of the Golden Rams gymnasts. Her squad is coming off a third-place finish at the inaugural GEC Championships last March in which the team qualified as a group for the USA Women's Gymnastics Collegiate Nationals. It marked the third time in Cordova's tenure that the Golden Rams qualified for nationals as a team.
Cordova feels her team will be among the top programs in the GEC once again this winter, and the gymnasts listed both qualifying as a team for nationals once again and advancing to the team finals – something West Chester has not done in three previous visits – as goals for the season ahead.
Two fifth-year seniors headline a list of 20 returning gymnasts to the Golden Rams squad with some talented freshmen lending a hand. A total of 13 regular starters in last year's lineup are back, and that has Cordova really excited about the possibilities for this particular group.
Two returning All-Americans and six returning All-GEC athletes are a testament to the talent and depth running through all four events.
