Women's Volleyball Edged by Bloomsburg in Friday-Night Clash

BLOOMSBURG, Pa.- The West Chester University women's volleyball team (7-6, 2-2) returned to action on Friday night at Bloomsburg (4-11, 1-3), looking to bounce back from its first PSAC East loss of the year last Saturday afternoon against East Stroudsburg. The Golden Rams battled throughout the night but fell to the host Huskies by a 3-0 (26-24, 27-25, 25-14) final, falling to 2-2 in PSAC East play.

Abiah Lane (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion) and Cece Isenberg (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) tied for the team lead in kills with eight each, while Jamie Byrne (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) provided a team-high 19 assists, along with 12 digs in the setback. Sydney Heffner (Bath, Pa./Northampton) led the team in digs with 15, while Meg Wolfe (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove) added 13 of her own on Friday evening.

In the first set, West Chester got a lead midway through the first set, holding an 18-15 advantage late, but Bloomsburg responded with a 9-6 run to close out the first set with a 26-24 victory over the visiting Golden Rams.

West Chester and Bloomsburg continued to trade points throughout the second set as neither side could take any substantial lead, with the largest advantage for either side coming early in the frame when Bloomsburg jumped out to a 6-3 lead over the Golden Rams. After trading points throughout the set, Bloomsburg scored the final points, closing on a 3-1 run to secure a narrow 27-25 victory and a 2-0 lead.

The Golden Rams and Huskies traded points to open the third set as well, but it was Bloomsburg who went on a 12-4 run midway through the set to take an 18-10 lead en route to a 25-14 third-set victory and a 3-0 victory in the match.

For Bloomsburg, Jenna Dubosky and Emma Antigua led the way in kills, finishing with 14 and 12, respectively. Elise Adelman posted three aces along with a team-high 30 assists in the triumph over the Golden Rams.
