West Chester Second in Quad Meet at UPenn Sunday

MEET RESULTS

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Seven season highs helped West Chester University's women's gymnasts to a second-place showing at a quad meet hosted by University of Pennsylvania inside the historic Palestra on Super Bowl Sunday.

West Chester scored a 193.05, topping 193 for the third straight week, en route to its runner-up status to Towson, which posted a 196.45 to take top honors. UPenn was third with a 193.05, and Ursinus was fourth with a 185025. The Golden Rams bested last year's Gymnastics East Conference champions by .025, marking the fifth time in the last eight head-to-head matchups that West Chester has come out on top of UPenn. It was the first such victory over the Quakers inside The Palestra since 2017.

West Chester posted a season-best 48.425 on the uneven bars. However, that was not the Golden Rams' best event. Head coach Barb Cordova's squad put up a 48.625, second-best on the year, on the floor exercise.

"I am super proud of this team," Cordova added. "We started off counting a fall. But, they finished the meet solid without another fall."

Fr., Sarah Eskew (Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored a career-high 9.775 on the bars, and Jordan Coleman (Bowie, Md.) earned a 9.8 to place sixth and pace the Golden Rams in that event.

Rose Fanara (Fredericksburg, Va.) scored a season-best 9.825 to tie for sixth place on the floor. Graduate Student McKenna Kissinger (Chambersburg, Pa.) registered a 9.75, and teammates Kristina Rodriguez (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Kiley Fred (Highland Mills, N.Y.) each received a 9.7.

Kiah Johnson (Philadelphia) led all Golden Rams on the vault with a 9.725.

Madison Whitaker (Lancaster, Pa.) scored a season-best 9.75 on the balance beam. Caitlyn Allen (Forest Hill, Md.) posted a 9.725 as well.

Rodriguez scored a cumulative total of 38.6 in the all-around to establish a new career-high.

The Golden Rams continue their road trip to Ivy League schools next Sunday when they head to Cornell University for a dual with the Big Red.
