Box Score 2 DINWIDDIE, VA – West Chester scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning of game two, and
Gabe Rappa (Paulsboro, N.J./Neumann-Goretti) retired the side in the bottom half, to help the Golden Rams split a doubleheader against Tiffin University Sunday afternoon at the Division II Baseball Challenge.
West Chester claimed the 4-3 win in the nightcap thanks to the late-game heroics. In the opener, Tiffin scored 11 unanswered runs on the strength of six home runs to come from behind and defeat West Chester, 15-10, in eight innings.
Ryan DeHaven (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) got the win in the nightcap. He threw six strong innings, yielding three runs on eight hits. He walked one and struck out five. Rappa picked up his second save in as many days by striking out the first two batters of the seventh before retiring the last batter.
Joe Kaleck (Southampton, Pa./Neshaminy) went 2-for-3 in the second game, and
Mark Elliott (Somers Point, N.J./Mainland Regional) had the only RBI of the game for the Golden Rams.
West Chester erased a 1-0 deficit in the bottom of the first of the opener with a six-run frame. A two-run single by
J.R. Gifford (Doylestown, Pa./Archbishop Wood) and a RBI double from
Sean Slowinski (Richboro, Pa./Archbishop Wood) highlighted the scoring.
Evan Profy (Croydon, Pa./Harry S. Truman) had three hits and scored three runs for West Chester from his leadoff spot in the order.
Gifford,
Zack Miles (Hatfield, Pa./North Penn) and Slowinski each had two RBI in the opener. Miles, Kaleck and Elliott each had a pair of hits.
West Chester heads to Glenville, W.Va. next weekend for three more non-league games on Friday, Saturday and Sundy. The Golden Rams will face D'Youville on Friday, Mercyhurst on Saturday and Pitt-Johnstown on Sunday.
