COLLEGEVILLE, PA – West Chester University narrowly missed its season high on Sunday, but did manage to score over 193 points for the second consecutive week in a dual meet victory over host Ursinus inside Helfferich Hall Sunday afternoon, 193.55-187.075.
West Chester claimed the high score in all four events and turned in the event winner in all four events while posting the 10th-highest score since head coach Barb Cordova took over the program in 2008-09. Ursinus posted its season high score, but it was not enough to get past the Golden Rams.
Old Line State natives anchored a solid showing on the balance beam in the final rotation that pushed West Chester's score north of 193. So.,
Caitlyn Allen (Forest Hill, Md.) tied for first place on the beam with teammate and junior
Lily McFarland (Baltimore, Md.). Both gymnasts received a 9.775. For Allen, it was the first win of an event in her college career.
McKenna Kissinger (Chambersburg, Pa.) and
Madison Whitaker (Lancaster, Pa.) tied for third right behind the Maryland duo with identical scores of 9.725. In fact, the Golden Rams captured the top six spots with
Kristina Rodriguez (Cincinnati, Ohio) and
Natalie Marshall (Bolton, Mass.) placing fifth and sixth, respectively.
West Chester, which led after each of the four rotations, got things off to an excellent start on the uneven bars with So.,
Jordan Coleman (Bowie, Md.) winning that event for the second straight week. She scored a 9.775, edging teammate Sr.,
Samantha Kelly (Mullica Hill, N.J.) who was runner-up with a 9.7. Rodriguez was third with a 9.675.
Allen got things off to a good start on the vault in the next rotation, tying her career-best with a 9.675 that would eventually place her second overall. Sr.,
Kiah Johnson (Philadelphia, Pa.) won the vault with a 9.775. Kissinger was third with a 9.65.
Kissinger won the floor exercise with a 9.825. Rodriguez and McFarland were third and fourth with a 9.75 and 9.7, respectively.
Rose Fanara (Fredericksburg, Va.) was fifth with a 9.675.
West Chester, which has posted its two best scores of the winter in each of the last two weeks travels to the University of Pennsylvania to take on UPenn, Towson and Ursinus in a quad meet at 2 p.m. inside The Palestra.
