NEW ORLEANS, La.- The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its team and individual All-Academic honors, and
Annika Hummel (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) was named an All-Academic Athlete, while West Chester picked up team Academic honors as well.
To earn Team Academic honors, the team must possess a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Individual All-Academic honors are presented to student-athletes who achieve an NCAA Qualfiying mark during the indoor or outdoor seasons and possess a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher.
As a team, West Chester posted a 3.52 team GPA to earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honors for the 17th year in a row.
Hummel becomes the latest Golden Ram to receive Individual All-Academic honors after turning in a strong 2022-23 season in her first campaign as a Golden Ram. Hummel, a two-time USTFCCCA All-Region selection in the pole vault, set new program records in the pole vault during the indoor and outdoor seasons and also hit NCAA Qualifying marks in both seasons. During the Indoor season, Hummel set the school record in the final meet of the regular season at Kutztown, clearing a height of 12 feet 0 ¾ inches at Kutztown before taking third at the PSAC Championships with a mark of 11-11 ¾. In outdoor action, Hummel set a new program record at the 127
th Penn Relays, clearing a height of 12-4 ¾, which allowed her to place fourth (the highest of any DII student-athlete in the field) while also serving as an NCAA Qualifying mark. Hummel eventually placed fifth in this event at the PSAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, clearing a height of 12-2 at Slippery Rock in May.
