No. 5 West Chester Holds off No. 9 Bloomsburg in OT, 3-2

WEST CHESTER, PAJasmine Miller (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor) scored two goals, including the overtime game-winner, to lead fifth-ranked West Chester to a 3-2 victory over ninth-ranked Bloomsburg at a soggy and wet Vonnie Gros Field Tuesday afternoon.

West Chester (6-2, 2-0 PSAC) made it 13 straight wins over Bloomsburg (7-2, 1-2) in the all-time series with the Huskies and improved to 2-1 in overtime games this fall.

Miller notched her second overtime game winning goal this season and third in two years when she took a long feed from Morgan Becker (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East), spun to her left and tucked the ball under the sprawled out Huskies' keeper and into the back of the cage with seven minutes gone in the extra session. It was her conference-leading 12th goal of the season over just eight games.

West Chester jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a tally in the second quarter and another four minutes into the third. However, Bloomsburg stormed back with two of its own to knot things up.

Paige Wolfe (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) deflected a shot from the top of the circle past Nevel off a penalty corner in the 27th minute. Mikenna Price (Henryville, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) and Becker picked up assists on the play. Miller then doubled the lead after halftime with a reverse chip from the left side.

Bloomsburg's Emily Swineford cut that deficit in half midway through the third quarter when she tipped a blast from Bella Culp past Emerie Loftis (Glen Allen, Va./Trinity Episcopal) off a penalty corner. Culp then converted a penalty stroke in the fourth to tie things up and send it into OT.

But, that's not to say that the Golden Rams didn't have their chances in regulation. Caitlynn Szarko (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) was robbed on two consecutive sensational saves by Nevel with about three minutes to play. She was also denied again one minute later on a shot from the right side. Nevel kept her Huskies in the match down the stretch with some excellent saves to force overtime.

West Chester outshot Bloomsburg, 25-4, with Nevel credited with 14 saves. Loftis (4-1) picked up the win in the cage for the Golden Rams, who travel to Mercyhurst on Saturday for another Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) contest.
