MEET RESULTS
WEST CHESTER, PA – West Chester University won four events and placed second in eight others, but it was not enough to overcome Division I foe University of Pennsylvania, 174-118, in the regular-season finale for both programs inside Graham Natatorium Friday evening.
West Chester (4-5) swam with a lot of energy and confidence according to head coach
Steve Mazurek in its final tune-up for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships next month. For Penn (6-2), it is on to the Ivy League Championships at the end of February.
Devin Metzger (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) won the 50-yard freestyle and led off the 400 free relay that closed the meet with a win as one of many highlights on the evening. He posted a time of 20.63 seconds to top the 50 free field. He teamed up with
Joel Dunnigan (York, Pa./Dallastown),
Dalton Fink (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) and
Nolan Benner (Green Lane, Pa./Boyertown) for a time of 3 minutes, 3.15 seconds. Metzger also finished second in the 100 free with a time of 45.46. Dunnigan placed third in the 50 free with a time of 21.15.
Gabe Laslo (Wind Gap, Pa./Nazareth Area) won the 100 butterfly in 50.59 seconds while
Breyden Wright (Georgetown, Del./Sussex Central) was fourth in 51.13 seconds.
Kolos Nagy (Szazhalombatta, Hungary) won the 400 individual medley with a very impressive time of 3:59.55. Nagy also turned in an outstanding time of 1:49.21 in the 200 back. He finished runner-up to Penn's Daniel Gallagher, who broke the pool record with a time of 1:47.84.
Paul Demesy (Saint Ulrich, France) was second in the 500 free in 4:34.65 while teammate
Daniel Dunigan (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) was third in 4:34.70. Demesy was also runner-up in the 1000 free with a time of 9:19.16. UPenn's Robert Melanson broke the pool record, held by West Chester University assistant coach
Victor Polyakov, with a time of 9:16.64.
On the diving boards,
Tyler Czeiner (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) was second off the 3-meter springboard with a score of 239.4, and
Boden Burkhart (Walnutport, Pa./Northampton) was third with a score of 228.83. The two divers switched positions off the 1-meter with Burkhart second (234.75) and Czeiner third (232.20).
West Chester now prepares for defense of its title at the PSAC Swimming Championships next month.
