West Chester Hits Season and Career Highs in Sweep of Home Pink Meet

MEET RESULTS

WEST CHESTER, PA – West Chester University's women's gymnastics program registered a season-high overall score of 194.075 to take first place in its own quad meet with visiting SUNY Brockport, SUNY Cortland and Ithaca College Saturday afternoon inside Sturzebecker Health Science Center.

In fact, West Chester posted season best scores in three of the four events while its overall score tied for the seventh-best in school history. The team's 49.000 on the floor was the highest of the season and ninth best in school history. The Golden Rams' 48.75 on the uneven bars marked the second-best score ever in that event. WCU's 48.225 on the vault was a season best as well.

SUNY Brockport was runner-up with a team score of 192.325, SUNY Cortland was third with a 189.345 and Ithaca was fourth with a 187.55. Saturday's quad served as West Chester's annual PINK Meet to raise awareness for breast cancer.

To put into perspective how well West Chester did this afternoon, consider that 14 season-high scores were achieved, along with 10 career-high marks. All six vaulters hit a season high while five of six on the floor enjoyed a season best day. Four of those scores in each event (vault, floor) were career bests.

A West Chester gymnast either won, or tied for first place, in all four events Saturday with sophomore Sarah Eskew (Pittsburgh, Pa.) taking home two wins. Eskew tied for first in both the vault and the uneven bars. Her score of 9.75 on the vault was a season high. Her 9.8 on the uneven bars was a career mark and equaled that of Jordan Coleman (Bowie, Md.) for top honors Saturday. Kristina Rodriguez (Cincinnati, Ohio) tied her career high with a 9.7 on the vault to place third.

Lily McFarland (Baltimore, Md.) won the balance beam with a 9.775. Caroline Cascadden (Ashburn, Va.) was second with a 9.7 while Natalie Marshall (Bolton, Mass.) tied for third with a 9.625. Kiley Fred (Highland Mill, N.Y.) won the floor exercise with a career-high 9.875, and Cascadden tied for second with a career effort 9.85. McFarland was fourth on the floor with a career-best 9.8.

Shannon Carroll (Kingston, N.H.) enjoyed perhaps her best day as a college gymnast with season marks on both the vault and the floor. She scored a 9.575 on vault and a 9.725 on the floor, which doubled as a career high. Corinne Gruber (Barto, Pa.) put up a career-high 9.625 on the vault as well. Melina Ringas (Glen Allen, Va.) scored a career-high 9.75 on the uneven bars while Bridget Sullivan (Watertown, Mass.) posted a career-high 9.575 on the vault.

West Chester hits the road once again next Sunday for a quick trip to Ursinus College. Meet time is set for 1 p.m.
