Sixth Annual Rams Let's Walk 5K Continues to Bring Awareness to Student-Athlete Mental Health

WEST CHESTER, Pa.- The sixth annual Rams Let's Walk took place on Sunday, September 22nd, 2024. Rams Let's Walk is an event that aims to support and promote student-athlete mental health awareness. Participants of the event include WCU students, staff, family, friends and residents can choose to take part in a 5k run or a one-mile walk. With that, student-athletes from numerous sports come out to support those who participate in the event.

Student-Athlete Success graduate assistant Allyson 'Ally' Meakim took the lead for this year's successful event this fall. Ally attended Ursinus College for softball where she was campus captain for The Hidden Opponent, a member of the Ursinus Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and a part of the Emerging Leaders Academy. Ally followed in her older sister's footsteps, co-founder Jessica Meakim, in running the yearly event.

At the end of the event, Ally expressed her gratitude to everyone who volunteered, participated and came out to this year's event. Race winners received their awards and raffle winners received their baskets. Ally stated, "I hope that this event continues to grow and that we have a Rams Let's Walk every single year so we can reach more and more student-athletes. I hope that we can plan more events and spread awareness for student-athlete mental health on campus."

Whether or not people are a part of the WCU athletic community, Rams Let's Walk always brings people together for a common cause. Next year's event will be WCU's seventh Rams Let's Walk hoping to bring even more participants to help raise awareness for student-athlete mental health.
