MEET RESULTS
WEST CHESTER, PA – West Chester University's women's gymnastics squad posted its second highest team score of the year in defeating visiting Ursinus College, 193.85-186.575 Saturday afternoon inside Sturzebecker HSC.
West Chester put up seven season highs and four more career bests in recording a score north of 193. The Golden Rams' gymnasts swept the top three spots in all four events.
Lily McFarland (Baltimore, Md.) won the balance beam and tied for first on the vault with Eskew.
Jordan Coleman (Bowie, Md.) won the uneven bars, and
Kiley Fred (Highland Mill, N.Y.) won the floor exercise.
The floor was where the Golden Rams excelled. Three season highs were established while two career bests were performed and two others were tied. All of that resulted in a score of 48.925. Fred paced the field with a 9.875 that equaled her career high.
Kristina Rodriguez (Cincinnati, Ohio) hit a season best and tied her career best with her 9.8.
Shannon Carroll (Kingston, N.H.) had a career high 9.75.
Sophomore
Sarah Eskew (Pittsburgh, Pa.) competed in the all-around for the first time in her career and finished with a 38.35. She tied her career best on the vault with a 9.75 while setting new personal high on the floor exercise with a 9.775. Her score on the vault helped West Chester eclipse its season-best with a mark of 48.275.
Bridget Sullivan (Watertown, Mass.) hit a career-high with a 9.575 on the vault while McFarland had a season-best score of 9.75 that equaled her career best.
Coleman's 9.875 was tops on the bars. Freshman
Hannah Shelton (Nokesville, Va.) was second with a 9.6, and both Eskew and
Hyla Betts (Shannock, R.I.) tied for third with a 9.575 each.
On the balance beam, West Chester claimed the top five spots. McFarland won it with a 9.825 while
Madison Whitaker (Lancaster, Pa.) was runner-up with a 9.775.
Caroline Cascadden (Ashburn, Va.) was third with a 9.65. Freshman
Karah Vargo (Fort Myers, Fla.) was fourth and
Natalie Marshall (Bolton, Mass.) fifth.
Saturday's meet was both Youth Day and Alumni Day for the Golden Rams' gymnasts. A large crowd of alums were on hand to pay tribute to former West Chester gymnast, Meghan Brannon ('16), who was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident last September five days before her 30th birthday.
West Chester heads to the All-America Challenge on Monday, Feb. 19 at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncassville, Conn.
