WEST CHESTER, PA.- The West Chester University women's tennis team (3-6, 1-0) picked up an important 4-3 victory in a suspenseful PSAC clash against Bloomsburg (7-6, 1-1) on Saturday afternoon.
Ashleigh Grooms (Newport, Ky/The Summit Country Day School) clinched the match for the Golden Rams with her 2-6 6-4 7-6(5) win at the third singles spot.
West Chester began the match by claiming the doubles point in quick fashion. Wins from
Delaney Tingle (Charlotte, N.C./Palm Desert High) /
Tori Alexander (Norristown, PA/Spring-Ford) and
Sohana Thompson(Fairfield, OH/The Seven Hills School) / Grooms got the Golden Rams up and running against the upset minded Huskies.
In singles play, Alexander won in straight sets against Bloomsburg's Nicole Ilkovic to give West Chester a 2-0 lead. Bloomsburg would not go without a fight, however. Getting its first wins of the day at the first and fifth singles spots, the visitors leveled the match at 2-2. Thompson's sixth singles victory proved to be crucial as Grooms clinched the match with her victory moments later.
